Alternative Dispute Resolution & Family Mediation

GOALS OF THE PROGRAM:
- to assist clients avoid adversarial legal dilemmas through the resolution of conflict and empathetic, assertive communication
- to equip each partner with the tools to communicate better, negotiate differences, solve problems and even argue in a much healthier, more constructive, way
- to keep the couple focused on the issues at hand and avoid arguments and blame

WHO SHOULD BE REFERRED:
- couples contemplating, but who have not yet decided upon, divorce
- couples whose divorce is pending who wish to minimize conflict and work together as parents
- couples who need help formulating ideas that will lead to solid, fair post-divorce agreements
- couples who want to understand their relationship better and learn to make informed, rational life choices to lead the life they want.

INTERVENTION/SESSION CONTENT:
- short-term, highly solution-focused mediation/counseling for those who may need only a few sessions to help resolve a conflict or weather a crisis
- longer-term therapy for those who wish to preserve a relationship greatly deteriorated or damaged by a breach of trust, such as infidelity


BENEFITS:
- mediation is voluntary, flexible, and confidential
- mediator remains neutral, not "working for" either party
- when both partners work with the same information, it usually takes far less time for them to reach resolutions that make sense to both parties
- the amount of time spent in mediation is contingent upon each partner's willingness to come to agreements that are equitable for both and in the best interests of their children
- mediation may save clients time, money and hassle by avoiding unnecessary court litigation

Fees must be paid at the time of the appointment.
